Sweet Jesus! I know that the Farm subsidy program is insane, but this takes the cake! We are forcing local organic growers to pay an additional penalty of almost $1000 an acre to grow food for people not animals/fuel when crop rentals in this country are only about $125/acre for irrigated land. Even at today's high corn prices that land couldn't bring in that much under corn. WTF?

Who would have imagined rooting for Walmart in an sustainability debate? "The times they'r a'changing" Wal-Mart's power -even if it is green washing- is undeniable and should be harnessed for Good.

I am rabidly falling in love with theis county and their mission. As someone involved in local politics I know how hard it is to sustain this level of committment for 4+ years. That is two terms -they have the grassroots support!

Really inspiring story of what a small Iowa County is doing to actively attract and keep family farms. The ability of sustainable farming to potentially save the agrarian lifestyle or our rural America is very promising Here in Wisconsin, some local Ag schools are seeing 400% increases in their dairy class sizes thanks to the rise of Organic Valley and real prices for milk again.

Sad to see backpedaling at a time when reducing your impact is so critical and gaining such momentum!

From the sire: "Every river has a watershed, every city has a farmshed" If only this country would figure that out! More of a local org for central WI, but LOVE the idea!!!
